
Just in time for the summer travel season, the base bus and subway fare in New York City will go up by a quarter on March 22.
On Thursday, the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, approve an increase of 25 cents in the base MetroCard fare, raising the cost of a one way trip to $2.75.
Bonuses will increase to 11 percent for every $5.50 spent. Currently, riders purchasing or reloading a regular Pay-Per Ride MetroCard gets 5 percent bonus for every $5 spent.
The weekly unlimited ride MetroCard will go up a dollar from $30 to $31, while the monthly unlimited ride MetroCard will increase from $112 to $116.50.
Express bus fare will go up from $6 to $6.50.
Single Ride tickets, which are only available at MetroCard Vending Machines, will go up by 25 cents from $2.75 to $3.
On the commuter rail side, tickets for both the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will go up by about 4 percent depending on the line.
