No pastrami for you: Carnegie Deli is still close due to illegal gas connection

The fame Carnegie Deli in Midtown remains closed a month after Con Edison discovered an illegal gas connection.

According to eater.com, the deli on West 55th Street and 7th Avenue, stands accused of illegally tampering with a gas line that was discovered during safety checks conducted by the utility company following a gas explosion at an East Village sushi restaurant in March.

As a result of the illegal tapping, the owner of the deli owed Con Ed more the $40,000, which was immediately paid.

Now there is one more hurtle that the deli has to jump over. According to the same report, the deli can not reopen until a work permits is issued and construction is completed to fix the illegally tapped line.

So for those of you looking for your pastrami fix or want to visit the fame deli steps from Carnegie Hall should take note of the closure.
