Fame Ringing Bros. Circus to close after 146 years

The New York City Metropolitan Area will get a final chance to see the circus roll through town this year.

After 146 years of entertainment, "The Greatest Show on Earth," Ringing Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus is shutting down, siting declining ticket sales and high operating cost, according to the circus' parent company, Feld Entertainment.

The circus' two traveling show, which travel by train from city-to-city, will perform in 30 cities between now and May. Major stops includes Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Providence and Washington, D.C.

The circus will performed its final show at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island on May 21.

The Coliseum twitted Sunday after learning of the news:

The final appearance of the circus in five boroughs will be from February 23 to March 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
