Lenox Lounge Building Gone

Lenox Lounge prior to closure in 2012
Building now long gone

In a changing sign of the times in Harlem, the building that once housed the legendary Lenox Lounge has been demolished.

According to DNA Info, the Lenox Lounge site and a neighboring building are being demolished to make room for a four-story, 15,000 square foot (1,393 square meters) commercial space. An application for a demolition permit was filed with the New York City Department of Building back in December 2016 and was recently issued.

No word yet on what commercial space will occupied the historic lounge, which was shuttered in 2012 after hosting countless jazz greats such as Billie Holiday, Miles Davis and John Coltrane for 73 years.
