Tiffany's flagship store to close for renovation in 2019

Tiffany and Company flagship store in Midtown, Manhattan
Tiffany and Company's flagship store on Fifth Avenue and 57 Street, made famous in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, will close its doors for a two-year long, $250 million renovation in 2019, according to media reports.

The renovation of the 10-story building is part of the 181 year-old luxury retailer's new focus on attracting younger and hipper customers to its iconic brand. This has included a recent advertising campaign featuring young stars like Elle Fanning, Maddie Ziegler and A$AP Ferg.

During renovations, Tiffany’s flagship operations will move into the former Niketown Store at 6 East 57th Street.

Tiffany & Company opened its first store on Broadway in Lower Manhattan in 1837, and slowly moved uptown over the years. Its current location on Fifth Avenue, which opened in 1940, is in the center of Midtown known for its luxury brands. Nearby shops include Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Bergdorf Goodman.

The renovations should be finished by 2021.
