Getting from Newark-Liberty Airport to New York City

You just landed at Newark-Liberty Airport and you're wondering how to get from the airport to New York City?

Well, there there three ways to get from Newark-Liberty to the City, and they will be explained on this blog post.

Option 1 - Commuter Rail

From any of the terminal at Newark, take the Newark Airtrain monorail to to the Newark-Liberty International Airport train station, where a  connection can be made to NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line trains to New York Penn Station.

The one way fare on NJ Transit, which included access to and from the Newark Airtrain monorail, will cost you $12.50.

NJ Transit is the commuter rail and bus service for the State of New Jersey.

Once you arrive at New York Penn Station on NJ Transit, you have the option to take the subway or a taxi to your final destination in the city.

The fare on the subway will cost you $2.25, regards to distance traveled. However, if you're in town for a week, you can purchase a weekly unlimited ride MetroCard for $29, which is a huge money saver.

If you're town for more than a week, you have the option to add more time to your unlimited ride MetroCard once the original time limit on it has expires.


Option 2 - Road Transportation (taxi or limo service)

There are taxi stands at all the terminal at Newark Airport, where you can take a taxi to your final destination in the city. However, be prepare to pay a hefty cab fare, which can range from $50 to $75 metered rate plus toll, as the taxi will taking the Holland or the Lincoln Tunnel into the city.

You can also try a car or limo service, which is a great option if you want to avoid waiting in line for a taxi or if you have a group larger than four people and want to arrange for a van or limousine.

Option 3 Road Transportation (express bus service)
In addition to taxis, you can take the Newark Airport Express, which is an airport express bus service that can take from the airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Penn Station or Grand Central for $16 one-way or $28 round trip.

The buses operate between 4am and 1am with departure from the airport very 15 to 30 minues.

So, whether its by commuter rail or road transportation, there are several ways to get from Newark-Liberty Airport to New York City.
