If you're traveling to New York City in the near future and you purchase a MetroCard in the subway, either from the station booth or MetroCard Vending Machine, don't be surprise of the card's new appearance.
That's because, these so-called "front facing ad" MetroCard went on sale at 10 subway stations in Midtown Sunday, and for the first time since their introduction more than 15 years ago, the card does not feature the familiar blue and gold logo and lettering.
Instead, the new card, which is pictured above, features an ad for the clothing retailer GAP, which became the first company to purchase ad space on the front of the fare card.
The retailer bought its ad to promote the opening of its remodeled flagship store in Herald Square on 34th Street and Broadway.
