What the best way to travel between New York City and New England?

If you're traveling between New York City and cities New England, there are several ways to get to and from the Big Apple by both rail or bus.

Intercity Rail

Amtrak, which is the nation's intercity passenger rail operator, provides frequent intercity rail service between New York City and destination in New England 7 days a week, year round.

Ticket prices vary by distance, the time of day you're traveling and the train you're taking. Cheapest one way intercity fare will be on the Northeast Regional, while the Acela Express has the most expensive tickets.

Ticket prices can be found online at the Amtrak's website, or by calling 1-800 USA RAIL (872-7245).

Commuter Rail

Amtrak, also has connection with several commuter railroads throughout New England.

For example, you can catch Metro-North's New Haven Line at several major cities along the Northeast Corridor between New Haven, CT and New Rochelle, New York for service to and from New York City.

You can also connect with the Shore Line East Commuter Railroad in New Haven for service to and from New London, CT, and the MBTA's Commuter Rail System in Springfield, MA.

Tickets for the commuter trains are not sold by Amtrak, but by the state public transit agencies for which they operate. Prices vary by commuter rail operator.

Bus

If you prefer to take the bus as oppose to the train, Greyhound, Megabus, BoltBus and Peter Pan Bus Lines provides frequent daily intercity bus service between New York City and New England.

Ticket prices vary by bus operator, therefore, I would recommend visiting their websites for pricing information.

Once in the Big Apple, relax and take in all the sights and attractions the city has to offer.
