South Street Seaport Mall closes after 28 years

Pier 17 closes its doors after nearly three decades

Another piece of old New York is being lost to history, as the Mall on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport closes after 28 years in business.

The barn-like building on the pier just south of the Brooklyn Bridge will be torn down next month and will be replaced by a new upscale mall, which is slated to open in 2015.
