No that is not a typo. River Avenue in the Bronx is now known as Rivera Avenue
Seven months after leaving the pitcher's mound for the last time, New York City honors a Yankee Legend with a street naming of his own.

On Monday, the City renamed the corner of 161 Street and River Avenue Rivera Avenue in honor of former Yankee Pitcher Mariano Rivera.

The street renaming came about after Yankee fans and community officials in the neighborhood near Yankee Stadium organized a petition driver to honor Rivera, who spend 19 seasons with the Bronx Bombers and currently holds the Major League Baseball record for most saves, helping the Yankees to five World Series Championships.

The future Hall of Famer, who was joined by his family, thanked the crowd present at the event, which took place right under the shadow of the Number 4 subway line.

Rivera has already been honored by the Yankees with a plague at Monument Park. His uniform number 42 was retire by the team at the close of the 2013 baseball season, make the Yankees the last MLB team to use the number once worn by Jackie Robinson when he broke baseball's colored barrier in 1947.
