Carnegie Deli to close for good by late December

Sad news for foodie lovers. After 79 years in business, the world famous Carnegie Deli will close up shop on December 31.

According to Curbed New York, the owner of the Seventh Avenue eatery announced the restaurant's closing to staff on Friday, October 1.

The owner plans to keep the Carnegie Deli's name alive through licensing agreements and other ventures. Already, an offer has been made by a New York restaurateur to purchase the Deli for $5 million.

The Carnegie has been in operation since 1937. It was closed for nine months last year due to an issue with the city's utility company, Con Edison.
