Editor's Note: Due to the discontinuation of the Atlantic City Express Service (ACES) train on March 9, 2012, this blog post has been updated to reflect the change.

If you ever been or planing to go to Atlantic City, NJ, and you don't want to drive. There two alternative ways to get from the Big Apple to AC.

Bus

NJ Transit bus route 319 can take you from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown, Manhattan to Atlantic City for around $35.75 one way. In addition, Megabus, Greyhound and Academy Bus provide bus service to and from Atlantic City for the almost same fare or cheaper than NJ Transit.

The trip from New York City to AC take between two and three hours each way, depending on traffic.

Rail

If you preferred to avoid the road, then the rails is the best way to get from New York City to Atlantic City.

Unfortunately, the Atlantic City Express Service, which is the express train that operates between New York City and AC on the weekend, has been discontinued due to low patronage and lack of track access on the Northeast Corridor, therefore, the only way to get to AC from the Big Apple will be via Philadelphia.

From New York Penn Station, you can take Amtrak to Philly-30th Street Station, where a connection can be made to NJ Transit's Atlantic City Line.

The one way fare on Amtrak, depending on the train you travel on, will set you back between $50 and $150, while the fare on NJ Transit's Atlantic City Line from Philly to AC will cost you $10 one way.

The trip on Amtrak from New York to Philly takes about an hour, while the trip on NJ Transit from Philly to AC will take about an hour and 40 minutes.

So, there you have it. Two alternative ways to get from NYC to Atlantic City with the need to drive.
