Be careful who you take a ride with that cabbie may not be a "cabbie"
In case you're traveling to NYC sometime in the near future, please be careful who you take a ride with, because you can get into big trouble or worst.
The video above is about a group of tourist who were taking for a ride at JFK. Thankfully, a member and the officers from the Port Authority Police Department knew what was happening and busted the driver.
Now, the reason I brought up this video is because there are some crazy knuckleheads who don't know the law and want to take advantage of travelers who come to enjoy a nice trip to NYC. This not only hurts the reputation of this city, but the reputation of every New Yorkers, who since September 11th, have been given good praise by visitors from every corner of the world.
If you're taking a cab from the airport to Manhattan, make sure you're taking an authorized New York City taxi (yellow cab) or a limo service the you've called for to meet you at the airport.
Do not take an unauthorized taxicab or limo, because the people operating these cabs are dangerous and known for robbing unsuspecting passengers.
It should be noted that the taxi fare from JFK Airport to anywhere in Midtown, Manhattan as indicated on this map is $45 including toll, regardless of the time of day or the traffic condition.
Alternatively, you can take is public transit, which is cheaper and more efficient than a taxi. A one way fare on the subway and Airtrain will cost you just $7.25 ($5 for the Airtrain and $2.25 for the subway).
The Airtrain also has connection to the Long Island Railroad, which is a commuter railroad, at Jamiaca Station.
If you're taking the LIRR from Jamaica Station to Penn Station in Manhattan or Atlantic Terminal in Downtown Brooklyn, the one way off peak fare is only $6.75. If you're traveling on the weekend, the one way CityTicket fare is only $3.75.
