Editor's Note: This blog post has been update to reflect recent changes to the subway and bus fare in New York City, which was enacted on March 3, 2013.
Recently, I posted travel directions from Manhattan to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, which is home to, of course, the New York Yankees. However, New York's other baseball team, the Mets, play their home games at CitiField in Flushing, Queens. Getting there from Manhattan is very easy and cheap as well.
From Times Square, Bryant Park or Grand Central Terminal
The best and fastest way to get from Midtown to CitiField is on the Number 7 train (Purple Line on the New York City subway map). You can take either the Number 7 local or express train from Times Square, 5th Avenue-Bryant Park or Grand Central-42nd Street to Mets-Willest Point.
The trip on the Number 7 local train takes about 40 to 45 minutes stopping at all station, while the trip on the Number 7 express, which stops at selected station, is about 30 minutes.
The fare on the subway is $2.50 one way ($5 round tip) with a pay per ride (regular) MetroCard. If you're in town for a week and your trip involves CitiField, you can purchase a weekly unlimited ride MetroCard for $30.
It should be noted that there is a $1 surcharge when purchasing a new MetroCard in the New York City Subway.
From Penn Station
CitiField is also served by the Long Island Railroad, which is a commuter railroad, from Penn Station. The trip from Penn Station to Mets-Willest Point on the Port Washington Branch take about 15 minutes each way and the one way off peak fare will cost you $5.75 ($11.50 off peak round trip).
If you're taking the LIRR on the weekends, you can purchase a CitiTicket, which is a discounted weekend rail ticket, from any LIRR ticket machine at Penn Station for $4 one-way ($8 round-trip).
Enjoy the game
